Job Summary:
The Laguna Ocean Foundation (LOF) is highly motivated individuals passionate about protecting and maintaining Laguna’s coastal and marine ecosystems. We are looking for volunteer Board Members who have the time, skills, resources, and connections to join our board of directors and contribute to our mission. Our board of directors is an engaged and high-performing board, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. To this end, the board provides support through fundraising, governance, strategic planning, programmatic and administrative guidance, and outreach.
Essential Duties:
In particular, we are actively seeking BOARD members who can serve in the following areas:
- Board Committee Lead – Finance
- Board Committee Lead – Marketing & Social Media
- Board Committee Lead – Annual Events and Programming
- Board Committee Lead – Fund Raising
Capabilities / Qualities:
Each director should have the following capabilities and qualities:
- Commitment to LOF’s mission and a genuine interest in our mission, vision, and values
- Willingness to be a team player and an empathetic, thoughtful listener
- Knowledge and skills in one or more areas of board governance: finance, legal, fundraising, strategic planning, governance, education and/or personnel
- Willingness to commit to two years of board service
- Willingness to serve on at least one committee and actively participate
- Willingness to accept assignments and complete them thoroughly and on time
- Willingness to commit time for monthly/quarterly board meetings, committee meetings, special events (10-20 hours per quarter)
- Willingness to participate in LOF’s fundraising efforts
Requirements
- Passionate about using science and education for marine and coastal protection
- Alignment with the organization’s values and mission
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key stakeholders and potential supporters required
- Excellent leadership and communication skills required
- Expertise in finance, fundraising, legal, science, marketing, or climate justice a plus
- Located in southern Orange County CA
